We had a busy week at the North Shore Senior Center Computer Learning Center.   Our new course on how to make a DVD with a slideshow that will play on a computer or DVD player was well received.  Today we started another "Beyond Boot Camp."  Boot Camp and Beyond Boot Camp are among my favorite courses because it is fun for all the instructors and coaches to share the pride and sense of accomplishment our students achieve when they can email, write a letter or surf the Internet.

Next week is filled with good stuff.  See the list below, but there is something for everybody.

We hope to see you next week.  Or drop-in tomorrow for our weekly Open Lab where we provide one-on-one help for your computer issues--and it's free!

Computer Assistance Today

We had a terrific day assisting senior with their computer issues. Go to the previous post to see what will be coming up next week.
"Now let me tell you a story........"

Said the student to the coach, "I just love coming to open
lab each week."

They just saw what Windows 8 looks like!
(Really, they are not singing.)

One of these coaches has the longest tenure; the other is the newest.

Two of us can't play Solitaire.

What happens if you cross Oasis with the Computer Lab?
Lot's of great programs.

November 1

It's been a great day in North Shore Senior Center's Computer Learning Center.  This morning we taught making flyers in Word and Publisher to Staff members.  This afternoon, we are teaching "How to use your digital camera" with students who are really in to it.  See today's pictures below.

Tomorrow

We will hold our weekly open lab, as we do every Friday from 10:00 a.m. to Noon.  We host an "open lab" where you can drop in and have your computer questions answered.  You can use your own laptop, or you can work on one of our computers.  Our group of 30 active volunteers can answer just about any computer-related question.  Our Computer Lab is "PC" based (Dell computers, Windows7, Office 2007) but we have coaches who are trained on Mac's, iPads, iPhones and Android-platform tablets and smart phones.

Later this weekend we will send out our schedule for the week.

Bobbi takes a lot of our courses; she is always at the front of our cue because she brings cookies.

Vivian hosts many great day trips for the Center.  She has a few openings in her up
coming trip on December 13 to the Museum of Broadcast Communication and
the Chicago History Museum.  The trips are great!! and get rave reviews.

Charlie was a recent "Volunteer of the Year" at the Center.
He runs the "lending closet" where members can borrow crutches,
walkers, and all kinds of rehabilitation equipment.

Here is Staff having way too much fun in this morning's class.

"Now, I know how to make a flyer."

Bill and Gene help a student. Sometimes it takes more than one.

"Where did I save my picture?"

"Munchkins" munching tator-tots--many tator-tots!
