Week of December 16


Next week is the final week for the Fall Trimester.  Steve is teaching “Scanning and Organizing your Documents” on Tuesday at 1:00.   

Friday, December 20, is jam-packed with activities.  We start with our usual open lab from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. 
 
Following the luncheon, Our Coaches' and Instructors Meeting will begin at 1:00.   At 2:00, Stan will host his monthly Computer Users’ Group.

Schedule for Next Trimester -- Winter 2014

We are offering a record number  of courses in the Winter 2014 Trimester.  This is a wonderful opportunity to sharpen you knowledge of computers, tablets or smartphones.  To better reflect the breadth of classes we offer, we have changed our name from The Computer Learning Center to The Technology Learning Center.  Now that we are "TLC", you have no excuse but to share our tender, loving care for all things electronic.

It is essential that each student understand the importance of observing the prerequisite requirements of each class so that you will have the necessary computer skills to succeed.

 

Our Computer Learning Center is equipped with PCs.  Some of our computer classes are applicable to PCs and not to Mac’s.  Many of our courses, especially those dealing with software (Picasa, PhotoShop, Genealogy, blogs, etc. or equipment such as DVD’s, CD’s, scanners, cameras, work for PC users as well as Mac or other operating systems.

Computer Assistance

A group of volunteers is available every Friday morning to answer your computer, tablet, or smartphone questions, try to resolve your computer problems, and help you with a computer or technology course you may be taking. Have a question about your laptop? Bring it in and we will help you learn more about it. This is an open lab, and availability of computers is on a first come, first served basis.

Computer Users Group

Join us for this get-together of men and women who use computers and have questions and/or answers to share. Also, listen to presentations on a variety of informative computer subjects. The club meets the third Friday of every month. Nielsen Campus or Premier membership required to participate.

How to Use Your Digital Camera

Gain hands-on experience in composing pictures, taking action and night pictures, and transferring pictures from your camera to computer. You also learn to edit and print your pictures with Picasa. Bring your camera, the instruction manual, and USB connection cord to class.

Windows 8 Accessibility and its Ease of Access Center

The Windows 8 accessibility options and programs make it easier for people to hear, see, and use a computer, including the use of touch-screens. You will learn the built-in options that make Windows 8 easier to use if you have physical limitations resulting from vision, hearing, or other physical issues.

Email: Learn Much More Than You Already Know

You use email, but are you sure what you can really do with it? In this course, you will learn how to set up groups, manage junk and spam, make folders, and a bunch of other cool tips that will make your email life more manageable. This course assumes that you have an email account and can do the basics, such as log in, and create and send messages.

Computer Housekeeping

Performing routine "housekeeping" tasks can help your computer run more efficiently. Learn how to scan your disc, get rid of temporary internet files and other temporary files, clean out the "My Documents" folder and other folders where information gets stored, defragment your hard drive, and other useful tips to keep your computer running smoothly.

Send & Receive Text Messages

"Text me with the information." What does that mean? Learn to send and receive test messages from your computer, tablet, Smartphone, and even from some plain ol' mobile phones. Leaving a voice mail gets a slow response. Sending an email gets you a response in three days. Texting can get an answer in nine seconds! Learn to text.

Organizing Your Photos with Photoshop Elements

What folder contains that great picture of mother? Joe's Wedding? Grand Canyon? And what was the file name, anyway? Using Photoshop Elements, you can organize all the photos on your computer, without being concerned about disk folders and coming up with file names you can remember. Photos can be tagged with any number of keywords for search and selection, grouped into albums, displayed and printed in various arrangements, and made into slide shows.

PowerPoint: Build a Better Slide Show Presentation

Get the most out of your iPhone! Learn to set up your iPhone with the correct software and settings, and connect to iCloud for backup and content management. Introduction to Photo Editing

Learn the basics of improving your photos using Photoshop Elements 9, whether taken with a digital camera or a film camera. Topics covered include cropping, correcting brightness, contrast, color, sharpening, eliminating "red eye,” resizing and printing the corrected photos. Basic techniques are introduced for selecting only a part of a picture for correction.

Boot Camp for New Computer Users

Log On for Bridge

Bridge on the Internet is a nice option to play from home and meet people from all over the world. This class will introduce an Internet bridge site, Bridge Base Online, where you can learn, play casually or compete in tournaments, and watch live broadcasts with voice commentaries of world class players in competitions. The class will cover how to enroll to this site and how to navigate it. We are going to log-on live during class.

Introduction to Genealogy

Ever wonder about those who came before you in your family line, and how to preserve information you have obtained from family members? With the internet, many countries' family histories are available to you. This is a basic course showing you how to get started in the research of your family history, and some of the internet sites that can be invaluable help in your task. Make Your Scanner Work for You

In this class you will learn to set up and use your own scanner or printer/scanner using "Windows Fax and Scan". Windows Explorer: The "Blueprint" of your Windows Computer

Scanning and Organizing your Documents

Are you tired of bulging file cabinets and having difficulty finding documents? Learn how to scan and organize all of your receipts, documents, and photographs in an organized secure environment. Just imagine being able to locate and print those important documents and pictures with just a few clicks of your mouse. All of this is possible with a low cost scanner or all-in-one printer/scanner in the comfort of your home. You are in Control! Using Your Computer's Control Panel

You use Control Panel to change settings for Windows. These settings control nearly everything about how Windows looks and works, and you can use them to set up Windows so that it's just right for you. Flash Drives: Mysteries Revealed

Learn the proper use of this wonderful storage tool, also called a Memory Stick or Thumb Drive. Save files and back-up your home computer.
